Living and Driving in Mississauga, Ontario
In the last few years, Mississauga has become one of the fastest-growing cities in Canada. With over 700,000 inhabitants and a land area of 140 square miles, Mississauga is now the sixth-largest city in Canada.
The city is in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and borders Lake Ontario on the east, Etobicoke Creek on the west, Steeles Avenue on the north, and Highway 427/QEW on the south. Before relocating to Mississauga, you want to check your Auto Insurance policy to ensure you are getting the best deal.
The city was incorporated on January 1, 1974. It was created from the former townships of Port Credit, Streetsville, and other settlements such as Malton, which were all amalgamated into the new city. Mississauga’s growth is attributed to its proximity to Toronto, Canada’s largest city.
It has attracted several corporations in the financial services industry (particularly insurance) and other corporate headquarters. International companies also have offices in Mississauga, such as Toyota Motor Corporation Canadian head office and IBM Canada’s headquarters.
What Does My Auto Insurance Policy in Mississauga Cover?
Auto insurance is designed to protect you in several ways. The primary reason you should buy auto insurance is it protects you against liability when you are involved in an auto accident where you are responsible for someone else’s injuries or property damage.
Direct Compensation-Property Damage (DC-PD) is coverage that protects you and your vehicle. It covers your auto and its contents as well as the loss of use of your auto, and the payment will come directly from your insurance provider. DC-PD only applies if the accident occurs in Ontario and there was more than one vehicle involved. Also, at least one of the other vehicles must be insured by a company that is licensed in Ontario or has a special agreement with FSCO to provide insurance coverage.
Collision coverage is optional and covers your car. It is a valuable coverage to have if an accident does not qualify for DC-PD and you want to ensure you can get your car fixed.
Statutory accident benefits coverage pays for your medical bills if you are injured in an auto accident regardless of who caused the accident, and it pays for income loss as well.
There is always a concern that another driver will not have auto insurance. Therefore, auto insurance in Ontario includes uninsured automobile coverage to provide coverage if you or your passengers are killed or injured by an uninsured motorist or hit-and-run driver.
These are the basic auto insurance coverages in Ontario, and you can add extra coverages by endorsement or increasing certain limits.

Mississauga Roads and Surrounding Areas
Mississauga’s downtown core is located along the shores of Lake Ontario, just west of Toronto. This area features high-rise condos, shopping districts, parks, and restaurants. If you are interested in a condo or apartment close to all the action in downtown Mississauga, check out City Centre or Port Credit.
There are many different neighborhoods in Mississauga, each with unique characteristics and attractions. These include:
Lakeview is a neighborhood where many people live in Mississauga. It is a small community with just over 5,000 residents with plenty of green space and parks where kids can play freely. You can choose from numerous restaurants, including Thai food or pizza places, so you can always find something to eat there if you are hungry after work or school!
It is easy to get outside and enjoy nature while living here. If you like hiking and biking, there are many trails throughout the city (even some along with lakeside areas). There is also an excellent farmers market every Saturday morning at City Hall, where you can find fresh produce from local farmers and food vendors selling their goods.
Erin Mills Village
This neighborhood is located near Erin Mills Town Centre and offers access to public transportation, including buses, rapid transit (MiWay), and GO trains. Several shopping malls are nearby, including Dixie Outlet Mall, Square One Shopping Centre, and Heartland Town Centre.
In the Erin Mills Town Centre, you can find a modern shopping mall that features over 100 stores and restaurants, including The Bay department store, Winners/HomeSense, and Old Navy. There are also several movie theatres located here.
This community is known for its excellent shopping facilities and restaurants. It is also close to several major highways that allow easy access to downtown Toronto and other parts of southern Ontario.
If you prefer a quiet neighborhood with lots of green space and mature trees, look no further than Meadowvale Village or Lisgar Gardens. Many commuters live in these areas because they are close to major highways that lead into Toronto for work each day (like Highway 401).
If your car is older and you do not have a loan on it, you might consider dropping the collision coverage. Just be aware that you may not have coverage for damage to your car depending on the circumstances of an accident.
Finally, shop around for auto insurance on occasion. Auto insurers are always looking for ways to lower their premiums. You might find that another insurance company offers a better rate than the one you are currently getting.
