The Trent-Severn Waterway is another spot to visit as it passes through Peterborough. This waterway is 386 kilometers long that connects Lakes Ontario and Huron at Port Severn. This location is unique because it contains the Peterborough Lift Lock, which has been open since 1904 and was once considered the world’s highest hydraulic lift. Peterborough Roads and Surrounding Areas
There are many neighborhoods in Peterborough, and all of them are desirable for different reasons. Depending on your needs, you may want to consider one of the following Peterborough neighborhoods:
East City
The East City neighborhood of Peterborough is located close to downtown and within walking distance of Little Lake and many nature trails. Residents say this neighborhood feels like a city within a city and has a close-knit community feel.
East City is also the oldest area of Peterborough, so the homes are older and eclectic. But it is an up-and-coming area and would be great for younger professionals who want to be close to the action of downtown. Some of the major roads you may find yourself on in Peterborough are Maria Street, Burnham Street, Rogers Street, and Ashburnham Drive.
University Heights
The neighborhood of University Heights is located in the north end section of Peterborough and close to Trent University. The homes in this neighborhood are more upscale and better suited for families who would prefer a quiet place to call home.
Despite the proximity to a college, the homes are far enough away not to be disruptive but close enough for convenience. The main roads you may encounter here are Champlain Drive, Champlain Crescent, and University Heights Boulevard.
Kawartha Heights
Located in the West End of Peterborough, Kawartha Heights is a neighborhood for young families. The homes tend to be more affordable here, with easy access to Highway 115, making it a desirable location for commuters. The main roads in this neighborhood are Kawartha Heights Boulevard, Brealey Drive, Ridewood Road, and Cherryhill Road.
If your car is older and you do not have a loan on it, you might consider dropping the collision coverage. Just be aware that you may not have coverage for damage to your car depending on the circumstances of an accident.
Finally, shop around for auto insurance on occasion. Auto insurers are always looking for ways to lower their premiums. You might find that another insurance company offers a better rate than the one you are currently getting.
