Our Review of the Hyundai Ioniq 5
May 17, 2022
With the surge in gas prices, it is no wonder car shoppers are giving the electric vehicle (EV) market a second look. Many are beginning to discover that along with its fuel cost savings, a decent auto insurance discount is also included. The main drive in the decrease in cost is that many auto insurance companies provide these lower premiums to clean vehicles driving on Ontario roads. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is one vehicle that meets these standards to receive such benefits. Let us review the advantages of owning an EV vehicle, as well as the notable features found in the Hyundai Ioniq 5.
Hyundai Ioniq 5 – Features
The first thing drivers will notice about the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is its stylish design. It fits right into the ‘20s. It comes in six different colors, from Phantom Black to Fiery Red. Drivers can select LED headlights and running light options for added visibility. Taillights also have an option to upgrade to LED. In addition to visibility, its aerodynamic design and mesh grill adjusts to driving conditions, thereby allowing the engine to self-cool in stop-and-go conditions to provide a better fuel economy.
Even without the leather interior or 17” wheel upgrade, your Hyundai will have you driving in style. Vehicle owners will have heated front seats and Bluetooth and iPod connectivity. Your visual audio system has MP3 capability with six speakers and an 8” display. The screen contains a rear-view camera that aids you in the nerve-wracking task of backing. With this tool, you can pull into that tight spot and look like a pro.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 – Tech Specs
The Ioniq Hybrid features a 1.6L engine size compared to the 1.3L Prius, with a lower sticker price. Being an advanced smart vehicle, the Ioniq senses how you will drive based on its internal navigation system. This feature helps manage your fuel and battery usage based on projected data along the planned route. The engine also has the ability to switch between its electric motor and gasoline engine, therefore maximizing its efficiency.
Fuel economy is always the primary benefit of owning a hybrid vehicle. The Ioniq is no exception. Rated one of the most fuel-efficient vehicles in Canada, this electric hybrid receives 1138km between refuels compared to the 933km of the 2022 Toyota Prius. By giving you 4.0L per 100km, Ioniq has the best fuel economy ratio for 2022 in Canada.
Hyundai Ionic 5 – Performance
When you get behind the wheel, you want your drive to be safe. In fact, you may even base your choice of vehicle on its safety performance. The Hyundai Ionic is constructed of what is known as SUPERSTRUCTURE™. This is Hyundai’s specialized and advanced high-strength steel that delivers strength and rigidity. Their trademarked product redirects impact from the vehicle, thereby keeping occupants safe. Other features that help protect drivers and occupants are:
- Lane Keeping Assist – If you drift outside your lane without signaling, you will get an audible and visual warning. If you do not react, the vehicle will automatically correct itself and steer you back into the lane.
- Driver Attention Warning – If your vehicle detects you are tired, it will give you an audible warning to alert you.
- Forward Collision-Avoidance – This feature will apply brakes if it detects a potential accident with another vehicle or pedestrian.
- Tire Pressure Monitoring System – Always know the tire pressure of each of your tires with a dash readout and warnings when it becomes low.
In many cases, your dash is your friend. You will receive visual and audible alerts warning you of potential hazards. And as always, these are the basic features of the Ionic. When you choose to upgrade your vehicle, you can elect to include Blind-Spot Collision Avoidance Assist, which helps you stay in your lane with warnings and Highway Driving Assist, which keeps you a safe distance from the vehicle in front of you at highway speeds.
