Jason Duliban Speaks: Why We Need to Support the Dunnville Farmers’ Market

Jason Duliban Speaks in Support of the Dunnville Farmers’ Market

Jason Duliban is the third generation owner of Duliban Insurance Brokers Ltd. The company has been family owned and operated since it began in 1976.

Duliban Insurance Brokers was founded by James Duliban, who with his wife purchased a small Insurance Brokerage in Welland. His son, Tom, would later join the business in 1985, and take over ownership in 1991.

Tom’s sons, twins Jason and Adam, joined the family tradition and entered the business in 2008. They officially took over ownership in 2016. The company now operates across the Niagara and Haldimand regions, with a friendly and hard-working team of dedicated hometown brokers.

Every staff member at Duliban has an invested interest and dedication to their community. As hometown brokers, we are all community members who care and want to see Haldimand prosper and grow, while remaining true to hometown values.

Duliban Insurance Brokers has been a vital business in Haldimand for three generations. Raising support and donations for the Dunnville Farmers’ Market revitalization project is the perfect way for the Duliban team to contribute to keep the community strong.

The Dunnville Farmers’ Market Revitalization Project

The Dunnville Farmers’ Market is currently fundraising for a revitalization project. This project includes the construction of a new market building.

With enough money raised, the Dunnville Farmers’ Market Association hopes to see the construction completed by Canada Day of 2017.

Duliban Insurance Brokers have offered their continuous support for the project since the beginning. In June, Duliban hosted a charity golf tournament fundraiser to raise proceeds, and hasn’t stopped there.

Jason Duliban was asked to present a speech to the council of Haldimand to endorse this project. He was happy for another way to voice his support, and is excited for the opportunity. Here is his speech.

The Speech

Dear Haldimand County & Members of Council:

My name is Jason Duliban, third generation owner of Duliban Insurance Brokers Ltd. As a small business owner in Dunnville, I take great pride in communicating my support for something such as the Dunnville farmers’ market.

I personally attend the farmers’ market with my wife and daughter and have recognized single handedly the benefits of such a vibrant market to our small business and local community. The farmers’ market and its associated vendors, along with the hundreds of attendees, is what make Dunnville, Dunnville.

What is the first thing you think of when you visit our farmers’ market? Is it the friendly vendors? Is it the colourful and fresh food? Or perhaps it is the welcoming atmosphere that brings the local people of Dunnville and Haldimand together. The answer is all of the above.

The farmers’ markets play a significant role in our family setting. New relationships are created, people are enjoying food at its freshest and most flavorful, and we are able to taste something new and get in tune with the seasons as they come.

Shopping and cooking from the farmers’ market helps us to reconnect with the cycles of nature in our small region. As we look forward to asparagus in the spring, savor sweet corn in the summer, or bake pumpkins in autumn, we reconnect with the earth, the weather, and the turning of the year. Not only can our family and all families gather at the local market to collect our needs for the week, but the market provides warm, fresh home cooked meals where families gather at the end of the day.

The Dunnville Farmers’ Markets play a significant and integral role in our community. It is a meeting place where vendors can share ideas with one another and their customers. It is a space for education as much as it is for business.

A downtown and enhanced public market will help small businesses sustain themselves by increasing their customer base and building interconnection. The fruits and vegetables you buy at the farmers’ market are the freshest and tastiest available. Fruits are allowed to ripen fully in the field and are brought directly to you- no long distance shipping, no sitting for weeks in storage.

This food, and the relationship you get from the people you are buying it from, is as real as it gets- fresh from the farm. A farmers’ market can nourish the community in many ways. Most food found at the farmers market is minimally processed, and many of our farmers go to great lengths to grow the most nutritious produce possible by using sustainable techniques, picking produce right before the market, and growing heirloom varieties.

The Dunnville Farmers’ Market is also relatable to our own small town business. Duliban Insurance Brokers have similar values and goals when it comes to sustaining in the community we live, providing our local families with the best product available, and, at the end of the day, ensuring our customers are satisfied.

We are fortunate to gain relationships and customers with many individuals that move to Dunnville and Haldimand from out of town areas. When we recommend attending the Dunnville Farmers’ Market to these new residents, they immediately embrace the culture of Dunnville and Haldimand.

It’s their endorsement of our culture and community that will make our township grow and prosper.

As a farm and agri-business insurance leader across Southern Ontario, our business truly understands the importance of the local farmers’ market to the local vendors and farmers. In fact, we rely on their success.

The vendors of the Dunnville Farmers’ Market need your support. Now that large agri-business dominates food production, small family farms have a hard time competing in the food marketplace. Buying directly from farmers gives all of us a better return for the produce that we are buying.

Wouldn’t we all rather stroll amidst outdoor stalls of fresh produce on a sunny day then roll a cart around a grocery store with artificial lights and music? Coming to our farmers’ market makes shopping a pleasure rather than a chore.

The farmers’ market is our community hub- a place to meet up with your clients and friends while we bring our children and get a taste of small town life in the midst of our wonderful county. From savoring produce at the peak of freshness, to meeting the people who grow your food, there are countless reasons we need to support the Dunnville Farmers’ Market and its revitalization project.

Thank you for listening and have a wonderful day.
